These days, smart watches are becoming more and more part of everyday society.

We used them to track on calories and keep up with our social media accounts. It shouldn’t come to anyone as a surprise that Audi is taking the next big leap forward by offering a smart watch that is capable of wirelessly starting and/or controlling a vehicle.

The car company recently gained a lot of media attention when it successfully demonstrated that it could unlock the new Audi S7 by using a smartphone or tablet. The new LG smart watch is their latest venture, and it’s definitely going to be much more efficient and convenient compared to smartphones or other mobile devices in terms of accessing a vehicle’s components. At this point, there’s no official smart watch that consumers can use as it’s only a prototype. There haven’t been any documented statements of the watch being released as a model, but we can sure all hope that this will be the case in the near future.

So what is the capable smart watch capable of performing? For one, it has the ability to remotely unlock an S7, and it can even remotely engage the ignition. The prototype even goes a step further by allowing you to “lend” your virtual “keys” to another person’s smartphone or smart watch. Could the days of having to carry around keys finally be over? It’s tough to say so early in the game, but with the way that Audi is approaching this problem, it could be sooner than later that we see them in the hands of everyday consumers.

The devices that are able to accomplish these remote tasks will need to download the Audi app as well as the appropriate security hardware to prevent unauthorized entries to vehicles. Sources have mentioned that the body for the Audi/LG smart watch is quite similar to that of the LG G Watch R. This means that consumers are going to be able to experience the perfect combination of practicality and aesthetic appeal in their smart watch.

On January 5th, 2015, news was reported that one of their prototypes made a 550-mile drive from San Francisco to Las Vegas. Driving from Stanford to the Consumer Electronics Show is one thing, but programming a vehicle to do it on its own is another. There’s no doubt that we’ll be seeing more of this technology in the future.

The vehicle employed more than 20 long- and mid-range sensors, as well as several cameras, grill-mounted laser scanners, and an internal radar system. Real-time GPS mapping was also utilized, and when all was said and done, Audi had created a vehicle that was literally able to drive on its own. The A7 prototype, also referred to as “Jack”, has the ability to change lanes, pass vehicles, accelerate, and break – all without any human interference. It’s the stuff of science fiction and it’s finally here for all of us to experience.

Audi’s goal is simple: to make driving a safer mode of transportation. The fact of the matter is that driving is more dangerous than all other modes of transportation combined. It’s very likely that Audi’s major breakthrough in self-driving vehicles is going to change that. But it isn’t going to happen overnight. Another interesting aspect of this story is that Audi is even allowing a handful of journalists to ride in the Audi A7 prototype for trips of 100 miles or less so that they can write more accurately on the system. So far, there haven’t been any casualties, and Audi is fully confident that there won’t be any. Their engineers have spent countless hours perfecting the software, so when these vehicles finally come time to hit the road with regular consumers, it’s very unlikely that there’s going to be widespread mayhem.

Audi mentioned in a statement that their self-driving technology is moving along quickly. It seems that though they’ve finally pushed past their technological plateau and can finally experience exponential success in this area. What do these upgrades mean for everyday consumers? This number doesn’t mean 49 different “trim levels” or “versions”. It means 49 DIFFERENT vehicles. It can then really make you wonder: what is in store for Audi in the coming years? One can only predictions, but it’s safe to say that the car company and Audi of Tucson has a bright future ahead of them.

Just prior to Christmas 2014, the CEO of Audi launched an event that celebrated the company’s passing of 1.5 million sales for 2013. For 2015, they are expected to achieve similar results. There’s no denying that Audi is in hot pursuit of BMW, a car company that has led the way for luxury car sales for the last 10 years or so. While it will be a solid challenge indeed, many experts now agree that Audi is in the position to do it. At the very least, they are going to give BMW a run for their money in the coming years.

What does the company need to do in order to accomplish this lofty goal? First and foremost, they’ll need to increase their car sales by about two million vehicles per year. But for this to happen, they’ll need to build another 11 models first. Building another 11 models, on top of the 49 that they already have, is quite an accomplishment. Compare this to BMW, which has produced significantly less over roughly the same timespan. It’s quite obvious that they are accommodating a wide range of driving styles and age groups. The company’s CEO mentioned that one of the obvious areas where they are lacking is in the SUV department. Here, they feel that there is a huge potential to push forward and increase sales dramatically. Creating a newly designed and prestigious full sized SUV might be a challenge in the beginning, but it will be sure to pay dividends later on down the line. For example, there will probably be an SUV made that is larger than the Q7. It will probably be called the “Q9”. The identity of the other 10 vehicles is something that we’ll need to wait for to find out. It’s a fact that one of the niches where Audi has failed in the past is the off-road industry. 1398799The Audi Q7 has been recognized as the first model from the VW Group to provide consumers with a plug-in hybrid diesel powertrain. This was told from a source from Automotive News Europe. The next-generation Audi Q7 is expected to undergo a variety of changes, and is expected to debut in 2015 with both diesel and gasoline powertrains. The plug-in diesel is expected to be offered a little later, and will more than likely be sold in both the United States as well as Europe.

What does this move say about Audi’s future? Well, this wonderful addition is expected to provide Audi with more assets when going up against some of their major competitors like BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Both of these companies are currently offering plug-ins that are combined with gasoline engines, so in order to keep up with the pace of change, Audi definitely needs to hop on board the bandwagon. The new Audi Q7 is expected to be only the second plug-in diesel offered for consumers in Europe, with the first one being the Volvo V60. It’s clear to see that there is a strong desire to beat their German rivals, and breaking into the market with the next-generation Q7 will definitely help make that happen. During an interview, the company’s CEO mentioned that both the Q7 and A8 would be receiving the plug-in diesel engine, although they didn’t mention which one was going to happen first.

He added that the drivetrain is going to combine a V6, 3.0-liter engine with an electric motor. There’s a good chance that, thanks to the economy that the plug-in diesel would provide, it’s going to be extremely popular amongst U.S. consumers. There’s no doubt that combining a gasoline engine with an electric plug-in option is going to reduce emissions and make it much more affordable for consumers to get around – who wouldn’t want to jump on an opportunity like that? One of the biggest challenges that pure electric vehicles have is that they don’t get the distance that regular vehicles get. In fact, most can only go about 100 miles before they need to be charged.
